Cavities দাঁতে পোকা / দাঁতের ক্ষয়
What it is: Sugar and bacteria slowly eat into the hard outer layer of your tooth, leaving a hole behind. It's what most Bengali households call "daat e poka" — and the nickname isn't far off from how it behaves.
Signs to watch for: A visible hole or dark spot, pain when eating something sweet, sensitivity that wasn't there before.
When to see a dentist: The moment you notice a spot or new sensitivity. Caught early, it's a quick, painless filling. Left alone, it can turn into a root canal.
Sensitivity দাঁত শিরশির করা
What it is: The protective outer layer of your tooth has worn thin, or your gums have receded slightly. Either way, the more sensitive inner layer is exposed to hot, cold, and sweet.
Signs to watch for: That shirshir feeling with cold water, ice cream, hot tea, or sometimes even cold air.
When to see a dentist: If it's frequent or getting worse. A quick check tells you whether it's a simple fix or something deeper, like a crack or early decay.
Gum Disease মাড়ির রোগ
What it is: Starts as gingivitis — gums that are inflamed and bleed easily from plaque buildup. Left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis, which affects the bone holding your teeth in place.
Signs to watch for: Bleeding while brushing, red or swollen gums, gums pulling back, persistent bad breath, and loose teeth in later stages.
When to see a dentist: Bleeding gums are never something to just live with. Get it checked sooner rather than later. Gum disease and diabetes are also closely linked, so it's worth knowing either way.
Bad Breath মুখে দুর্গন্ধ / Halitosis
What it is: Usually, bacteria build up on your tongue, teeth, or gums. It can also be a symptom of gum disease, a cavity, or dry mouth.
Signs to watch for: An odour that doesn't go away with brushing, a coated tongue, or a bad taste that lingers.
When to see a dentist: If mouthwash and brushing aren't fixing it. It's usually a sign of something else going on, not a standalone problem.
